As The Poets Affirm was born out of a group of independent Ottawa musicians in the early months of 2001. What started as a three piece acoustic project, slowly transformed into an eclectic seven member lineup. To date, the group has been steadily sparking both national and international interest with two independent full-length releases. Their first album, "I want to tell my heart to you.but I cannot say English", was released with a sold out performance at the National Arts Centre’s Fourth Stage and quickly found its way to the top of the campus charts across Canada in early 2004. The amount of airplay it received managed to propel the album to the National Campus Top 50 chart for many weeks. Playing shows throughout Ontario and Quebec and continuing the writing process, the group headed back into the studio to record their second full-length album. The Jaws That Bite, The Claws That Catch was released later that year with another sold out show at Zaphod Beeblebrox in Ottawa and quickly surpassed its predecessor by debuting on the National Campus Charts at #19. Both albums have received significant support from the CBC networks. Aside from being profiled and receiving continued airplay on the three CBC stations, the band has also been featured at #1 on the New Music Canada website. Currently, they are promoting their second release with shows between Toronto and Montreal in anticipation of a Canadian tour for May 2005.

Recently, the band has sparked the interest of ex-Inbreds drummer Dave Ullrich who has signed the band on to his online label. ( is a new download-only label used as a way to facilitate digital music sales for a few independent acts. The label has grown quickly, releasing albums by many great artists.
