Introduction

Mélissa Laveaux is a 19-year-old singer-songwriter who first wowed the crowds at LadyFest Ottawa 2003 (www.ladyfestottawa.com). This debut performance gained her much acclaim and many fans. One part blues, one part folk, a dash of jazz and a few good measures of hip hop could be an apt description of the wise-hearted melodies Mélissa can provide. Since Ladyfest Ottawa 2003, Mélissa has performed with artists such as Oni the Haitian Sensation, Erin McGregor, Mirah, The Weeds, Casey Comeau and the Halfmilers, Kevin Grant, Craig Cardiff, Ana Miura, Sophomore Level Psychology. Also an avid activist she has performed at the following venues: Take Back the Night March 2003, *Chicks with Sticks and Strings* (a benefit for the Vagina Monologues), December 6th vigil in Ottawa at the Womens' Monument.
