Energetic, passionate and sure nuff rock steady. Well Charged has been described as a refreshing answer to the call for levity. Inspired by the eternal groove and lead by charismatic front man Winston Cole, Well Charged brings a diverse pallet of flavors back to Winston’s Jamaican roots.
Phil Clancy on drums and Jake Janzen bass keep a bottom end that keeps yo ass in the grass. While keyboardist Todd “Raccoon” Britton keeps the rhythm poppin’ with his bluesy no nonsense organ lines. Guitar players Derrick Chapman and Steve Hiehn complete the crew with a steady reggae rhythm and sweet counter melody.
Cole takes the music straight to the people. With songs like Gangstament and Strange raising social and political issues, the band also brings messages of hope and celebration with songs like Rock in U and Visited.
Although the band consists of six core members there is a seemingly endless extended family of musicians that frequently join the band, sometimes having up to ten members on stages at a time.
While Well Charged has spent the spring and summer writing and recording some new material for the new album due out in the late fall, the band is found firing up a wide range of audiences at clubs and festivals in Guelph and surrounding areas. In response to an eager and growing demand for something to take home after the show, Well Charged has released a three songs E.P.(Wicked licks) that includes two remixes of other songs that will appear on the new CD.
With a broad catalog of original songs, Well Charged is ever striving to use their vast influences to create new sounds while staying focused on paying ultimate respect to the force that brought them together: REGGAE MUSIC. So if you’re new to reggae music or you've been on the skank since birth, Well Charged delivers!
